Safe Halloween in Park Center

For APEM (Alliance for Physical Education Majors) I worked a safe halloween event for the club a Park Center at SUNY Cortland on halloween weekend. Being part of APEM we have to do an event so I picked to do this halloween event. I was helping out the kids friendly haunted house. There were many different things for the kids to do there was a kids friendly haunted house and scary haunted house a room for musical chairs, costume contest, pumpkin tag in one room, face painting and lots of everything. It was a great event for kids to come to. In the kids friendly haunted house we set up an course for them to go though instead of trying to scary them and letting them have fun! Unfortunately only 5 or so kids came to park center that day and came to the event but, for those kids that did they really enjoyed themselves so that was fun. I'm glad I got the chance to do that and just be active with the kids.

Going Bananas at St. Mary's on Halloween!!

Today at St. Mary's for lab number four the students were wild and crazy because it was halloween! Probably because of a sugar high. Today's lab class was a challenging day. I dressed up as a banana and the kids were loving it. We went outside with the older group and as soon as I went outside in my banana suit the just started chasing me around like crazy and all over me saying "GET THE BANANA!" It was really great cause I really got them running around and having fun and I had a ton of fun and I was super tired! It help them to be more active which was good and it helped throughout the day to get there attention. While introducing my game we lost a lot of the kids because they got picked up and the ones who were left just did not want to listen to the games we were going to play. I think that was because of all the sugar and running around they were doing. That made it really hard for me to teach them my game and they just were not getting it, but I'm glad because it gives me an idea of what I need to work on to improve my teaching. I need to be louder and take more control of my classes, and other things. Overall the experience as a whole was enjoyable because of all of the college students that dressed up for halloween and how much the St. Mary's students enjoy all of us dressing up! I Get Knocked Down- Jumping Jack and Jills

My group the Jumping Jack and Jills created a short video where we chose a song and created a dance to it for one minute and recorded what we did. This is the start of a project we will be doing where we make a video to outline a whole chapter.

SUNY Cortland Mini Conference

Last friday SUNY Cortland hosted a mini conference for physical education. This was a great experience for a students and teachers at SUNY Cortland. Everyone learned many new things to add to their teaching styles and expand their way of thinking. I went to a very interesting teaching on games from Australia done by SUNY Cortland students that went to Australia for student teaching. Learned not only games from Australia like ruby but also how to involve each subject matter in school to physical education classes. Like adding elements from math, social studies, science, art, and music into each lesson plan. This helps each student review what they are learning in there other classes, while they have fun and are physically active.

Locomotor Lab part a lab 2 overview click here

Lab 2 was my first day teaching day at St. Mary's it was a very eye opening experience made me realize that I really do love to teach and love being around the kids and always having fun. I taught the chicken dance and overall it looked like the kids really enjoyed it which made me very happy. Everyone else did very well too especially since it was our first day.
